Take a Walk

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

Are you interested in starting a regular practice of physical activity that's easy and enjoyable? Walking can offer numerous health benefits to people of all ages and fitness levels. It may also help prevent certain diseases and even prolong your life. Begin an exercise routine of going on walks in your local community. Here are some tips to get you going:

Physical activity is key to a healthier life and a fit body.
  • Choose a nice and safe place near your residence or work.

  • Find a partner to walk with you.

  • Prefer flat and natural places or streets without heavy traffic.

  • Wear light, comfortable clothing that allows sweat to evaporate on hot days.

  • Choose comfortable sneakers that provide support and stability, and dampen the impact of the strides.

  • Use cotton socks preferably because they help absorb sweat.

  • Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap and avoid exposing yourself to the sun from 10 am to 4 pm.

  • Do not forget to stretch before and after the walk.

  • Start your walk at a slower pace and progress slowly until you reach a speed you can hold for about 30 minutes.

In addition, it is important to maintain a balanced diet routine and plan ahead of exercise. The ideal time for a meal to be digested is two to four hours approximately. Eating snack during the time of exercise can be helpful, however, it's recommended not to start a workout with a very full stomach.

Another important point is hydration. It's important to keep mindful of your fluid consumption before, during and after the walk. Our tip is to take a bottle of water and drink it regularly every 15 to 20 minutes.
